Alleged Prairieville thief caught in the act, then shot

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - An alleged burglar is in the hospital Saturday night recovering from a gunshot wound after police say he got caught breaking into his neighbor's vehicle.

Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies say the vehicle's owner shot Adam Anderman, 28, late Friday night when the owner reportedly heard Anderman outside trying to break into the vehicle at his home near Highway 933.

The owner told sheriff's deputies he walked out of the house with a gun, yelled at Anderman to leave, but Anderman didn't listen. The owner then reportedly started shooting.

Anderman was later taken to the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. He faces burglary and trespassing charges.

Authorities say Anderman was arrested several years ago for burglary. He is also currently on probation for forgery; three counts of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud; possession of a drug without prescription; possession of ativan; and possession of oxycotin.
