JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – The Jackson man arrested in connection with Monday's pit bull attack of a nine year old is free on bond.

Thirty three year old LeSean Pickett posted a $1,500.00 bond following his initial appearance in Jackson Municipal Court Thursday.

Pickett is charged with interfering with the duties of an animal control officer, failure to provide standard care and treatment, and failure to maintain control of an animal.

The charges are all misdemeanors.

J.P.D. investigators said Pickett owned the pit bull that tore the lip and bit the stomach of Marquevenia Keys.

The third grader lives three doors down from Pickett.

Monday he was playing beside the Lee Elementary School fence when police said the dog broke his chain and attacked.

Animal Control officers removed another pit bull from Pickett's residence Wednesday because it was malnourished.

The animal is being evaluated.

"Animal control came back. They got a dog, but that's not the right dog that attacked my son. The dog that attacked my son they took it off somewhere," said the boy's mother Melissa Charleston.

The search continues for the brown pit bull accused in the attack.
