JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Pro-life Mississippi supporters gathered Saturday night in observance of the 38th anniversary of Roe versus Wade petitioning to overturn the landmark decision.
Dozens stood on the steps of the capitol holding candles and praying during the 38th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision that gave women the right to have an abortion.
Each year local pastors, congregations and others commemorate the date. The event started earlier in the evening inside the rotunda with inspirational music and a short service.
"We want people to choose life for their children and we want to let people know that we have all kinds of organizations and groups that can offer help to women who are in crisis pregnancy and let them know that there's a better choice than abortion," said event director, Rev. Doug Lane.
This is the 24th year the candle light prayer vigil has been held.
