JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has denied the post-conviction petition of Larry Evans, who pleaded guilty to charges in the 2005 death of a Jackson convenience store clerk.
Evans was sentenced in 2007 to 20 years for manslaughter and 15 years for armed robbery.
An inmate argues in a post-conviction petition that he has found new evidence - or a possible constitutional issue - that could persuade a court to order a new trial. A Hinds County judge denied the petition in 2009.
The Appeals Court on Tuesday rejected Evans' claims that his attorney could have done a better job. The court said Evans, when pleading guilty, told the trial judge that he was satisfied with his attorney's work.
