It's tax time, and if you can make it over to the Jackson medical mall before 2:00 P.M., you could be eligible to have your taxes filed for free.
The "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program" known as VITA kicked off Friday. The Jackson Medical Mall Foundation and the United Way have teamed up for the "Keep the Change Fair," where VITA tax preparers are available to help families and individuals file their taxes.
Households earning $49,000 or less qualify to have their taxes filed for free and receive a full tax refund through VITA. Additional financial assistance is also available.
Mandy Scott from the United Ways, says "we've got nearly 40 exhibitors out here to offer all kinds of services and advice to help people kind of become more financially secure, get themselves on pathways of prosperity."
If you're not available to come out today, you can still receive help. VITA tax preparers are available at the Jackson Medical Mall and various sites across the Jackson metro through April 14th.
