JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Local musicians were rocking out in downtown Jackson Saturday night and it was all for a good cause. Musical artists Blue Mountain, Kudzu Kings and Taylor Hildebrand were all performing at Hal and Mal's Restaurant.
It was all to benefit a River Blue, a vocational training program for youth in north Uganda. 80 young people have graduated from the program that offers tailoring, agriculture, business and English skills.
"We're dealing with a community that has suffered from the Lord's resistance army in northern Uganda, the rebel army. Now that there's peace we've come in and it's a program where we're giving them a chance now. We're allowing them to educate themselves and give back to the community," said Program Director Chandler Griffin.
