Fatal Lamar Co. shooting victim identified

PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County officials have released the name of the Baxterville man killed in a Sunday shooting.

According to County Coroner Blake Davis, 39-year-old David Gann was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting inside a neighbor's house

Davis said an autopsy is pending.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said Gann was shot while breaking into a neighbor's house following a fight between the two. Rigel did not release the shooter's name because he has not been charged with a crime because investigators have deemed the incident an act of self-defense.

Rigel said the case will be presented to the grand jury to determine if the shooter should be charged with a crime.
