JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Seven and a half month old Robert Lewis Carter Jr. is a little bundle of joy. His smiles and laughter bring joy to a family grieving the loss of Robert Junior's parents Robert Carter and Renitra Mark.

"She was in school, he was working, always made an honest living and for someone to just come and do that" said Lagather Ard, Robert Jr's great-aunt.

On January 26th, Mark and Carter were found shot to death inside of their Terry home. The couple's baby Robert Junior was left in the home unattended for two days.

Shortly after the murders, three men, including, Carter's brother were arrested and charged with capital murder.

"It's been hard because like I said we were a close family, we still are and always will be, but its just something that took us by surprise because like I said they were two bright young people" said Ard.

Baby Robert is being raised by his grandmother now. To help out with his necessities, the Hinds County Sheriff's department announced the opening of a BancorpSouth benefit account for Robert Junior at Monday's Hinds County Supervisors meeting.

"Those who'd like to contribute certainly can go to any of our branches in the metro area and tell any of our managers" said BancorpSouth official Thomas Darnell.

"I'm glad to see this come in front of the board of supervisors and we're going to donate and we're asking everyone to donate because you know you can see the family is still grieving and the child needs help and its our obligation," added Robert Graham, Hinds County District One Supervisor.

Although money can't replace Robert Junior's parents, the family is just thankful for any and all support they can receive for the baby.

"He's fine, you see he's in there playing now, he's fine, but my family we're taking it one day at a time" said Ard.
