JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - An Illinois family is spending some time in Mississippi this week, hoping to encourage people to sign up for organ and tissue donation.
Mike Greiner, his wife, Sherri and their two children have been on the road since last May. They sold their home in Lincoln, Illinois, to initiate MyStateCares.org. Mississippi is the 39th state they've been through.
Mike, who has received a donor kidney and pancreas, say he is so grateful for his donor, and empathetic to those anxious about receiving the gift of life. "There's 110,000 across the U.S. 1,200 in Mississippi just waiting to get a phone call, saying your are going to live."
The Greiner's encourage people to sign up for donation either on the internet or at a driver's licensing station. The family is now headed to Biloxi and then, they'll move on to Louisiana.
