JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A historic moment Tuesday morning in downtown Jackson as city crews renamed a portion of Jefferson Street "Woodie Assaf Drive."
The city council approved the measure to honor the legendary weatherman and broadcaster, who worked at WLBT and WJDX radio for 56 years before his retirement in 2001.
Assaf died in 2009 at the age of 92.
The renamed portion of Jefferson Street runs from Pascagoula Street to Silas Brown Street -- right in front of WLBT, where Assaf spent most of his career.
