JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One local university may become the owner of its own stadium in downtown Jackson.
Jackson State University may get ownership of Veterans Memorial Stadium because of a bill that passed the Mississippi house Thursday.
House bill 1158 will now go to the senate after the house approved it 108 to 9. After which, it must be signed by Governor Haley Barbour.
The State Department of Finance and Administration has owned the stadium for nearly 60 years.
Some lawmakers who support Jackson State voted against transferring the stadium to the university, fearing it could be too expensive to maintain.
