JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson and Flowood police made two major arrests in connection with stolen metal products that are being sold for scrap.
25-year-old Randy Johnson of Los Angeles and 23-year-old Derrick Hodges of Mendenhall were arrested Monday at General Recycling in Flowood after employees became suspicious and called police.
The steel was stolen out of car washes and other businesses. They even took manhole covers. Employees at General Recycling in Flowood became suspicious of the same types of materials being brought there for sale and called police.
Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green said the suspects are being charged with multiple counts of grand larceny, and more charges are expected.
Owner of the car wash at 3570 Siwell road Ali Abdul was very angry about the grates being stolen out of his car wash. This prompted him to shut down his business.
The stolen steel was brought to General Recycling in Flowood where it is melted down in various steel products at nearby Nucor Steel.
