JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The man police believe murdered a man then fled in a FedEx delivery truck is now in custody.

Jackson police say Charles Johnson, 32, turned himself in to Hinds County sheriff's deputies just after 7:00 Wednesday morning.

Johnson was wanted in a series of crimes on Tuesday, including the murder of Eugene Roberts.

Johnson's last known residence is in Clinton. The Mississippi Department of Corrections says Johnson does not have a criminal record.

He is being charged with one count of murder and two counts of armed carjacking.

Police say Johnson fatally shot Eugene Roberts, 22, around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon. Roberts' body was found in a red Pontiac Grand Prix parked in front of a house in the 200 block of Culbertson Avenue.

Police say Johnson fled the scene in a gray Chevrolet Suburban, which was crashed and abandoned about a mile away on Nimitz Street.

Officers believe Johnson then carjacked a FedEx delivery truck, which was found hours later on Dawson Street in Clinton. The FedEx driver was not injured.

Police have not released a motive for the fatal shooting the set off the chain of events.
