Accused suspect in armed robbery and carjacking makes initial appearance

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The man accused of murder and carjacking earlier this week in Jackson, Charles Johnson, made his initial appearance before a judge in municipal court.

Jackson Police say the 32-year-old shot and killed 22-year-old Eugene Roberts Tuesday afternoon. Roberts' body was found in a red Pontiac Grand Prix parked at a house on Culbertson Avenue.

Police say Johnson left the scene in a Chevrolet Suburban. He then abandoned that SUV and car-jacked a Fed-Ex delivery van.

Johnson is charged with one count of murder and two counts of armed carjacking.
