JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The smell of enticing cuisine draws in hundreds to the Jackson Medical Mall Saturday evening.   Crowds turned out for the 21st annual "Taste Of The U."  It was a cooking competition between University of Mississippi Medical Center employees.

36 teams battled it out for the winner of best tasting food and best presentation.  Elaborate themes ruled the evening including Harry Potter, Candy Land and emergency room.  The money raised will go to fund medical center projects.

"We have three pediatric patients who live in the medical center that we actually pay for their outings.  As you can imagine, it takes a huge team to get these children out," said Celeste Eason, co-chair for the 2011 Taste Of The U.

"A project that is near and dear to our heart this year is an appearance room at the cancer institute where cancer patients can come try on wigs and we're going to make them look beautiful, make them feel beautiful," said Marilyn Roberts, co-chair for the 2011 Taste Of The U.

The event has earned more than $500,000 for projects since 1997.
