OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLBT) - An Ocean Springs woman is charged with manslaughter after an autopsy confirmed her newborn's death was caused by a cocaine overdose.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says 32-year-old Antoinette Newsom was arrested Friday. She is being held at the county's adult detention center.
Byrd says Newsom delivered a full-term baby boy, who died a few hours after birth.
An autopsy revealed the baby died because of an excessive amount of cocaine in his system.
The sheriff says Newsom was out on $5,000 bond from a December 10th charge of felony possession of heroin.
