Hazlehurst, MS (WLBT) - The adoptions of nine children were finalized in a big celebration in Copiah County. Five families have opened their hearts and homes to children who had been in foster care and now have their own moms and dads in this week's Wednesday's Child.
It is called a mass adoption. Judges throughout the state pick one day to finalize adoptions. This is the first time a mass adoption has been held in Copiah County.
"The children now have a permanent home. They are no longer having to be moved from one foster home to another. So they are in a permanent home and they can have permanency in their lives", said Dorothy Jacobs a Department of Human Services Adoption Specialist.
Among the children adopted two sibling groups. One with four children another with two. Eric and Patricia NaQuin adopted 2 and a half year old Candice.
"I don't think words can express how much, how happy we are, what we feel. We've been waiting for this a long time. Yes we've been having her since birth. We're just so happy that she is ours legally now", said Patricia NaQuin.
Rosie Wilson says her five children are all adults and when she took these four children into her home five years ago they became a part of her family even before she signed the adoption papers in Judge Edward Patten's courtroom.
"We go to church, we go to bible class, and they do all kinds of sports activities", said Wilson.
Part of the celebration, this balloon release. Each balloon represents the release of a child from Department of Human Services custody, into their permanent home.
"Every child needs a home", Wilson said.
"It's wonderful. You know there are so many kids out there that need a place. They don't have a home to go to and I think if we had more people that would just participate with DHS, taking in kids and just loving them, that's all they need is love", Patricia NaQuin said.

Wednesday's Child is sponsored by Wendy's and WLBT.
