JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Precious stones were the stars of a show at the state fairgrounds Saturday. The 52nd annual Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society or MGMS show was being held at the Trade Mart building on the state fairgrounds this weekend. Gems, jewelry, fossils and minerals of every kind were on display from about two dozen different vendors.
Craftsmen are showcasing their skills and teaching others. Those who wanted to learn got hands on experience making jewelry and gem faceting.
"They're beautiful. They're fun and exciting. We go on rock hunts and if you find something it is really fun to find something there in the ground that someone has not found for thousands of years," said MGMS Education Chair Delores Navarrek.
The gem show continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission was $5 for adults and $3 for students.
