JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A group in support of the practice of midwifery is expected to gather at the state capitol building Monday morning.  Mississippi friends of midwives is backing house Bill 207.  It would allow midwives to receive certification through the North American Registery of Midwives.

In nine states the practice is completely banned, but in 26 states it is legal and a certifiable profession.  In Mississippi, it is legal, but those wanting to practice cannot receive a certification.  The bill passed the House.  The Senate Subcommittee has until Tuesday to discuss the bill and continue on to the Senate for a vote.
