JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Becca Ruckes scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Ripley beat Choctaw Central 57-54 for the Class 3A Girls State Championship on Thursday.
Ruckes made 8 of 9 shots from the field and blocked two shots as the Lady Tigers led for the majority of the game. Shunquest Howell scored 14 points and Jayla Chills added 13.
Chills hit a 3-pointer with 2:31 remaining in the fourth quarter that gave Ripley a 52-49 lead it would never relinquish.
Ripley (28-4) won its first state title since 2003. The Lady Tigers outrebounded Choctaw Central, 43-25, and grabbed 18 offensive rebounds.
Choctaw Central (31-4) was led by Kristen Dixon and Jana Chickaway, who scored 15 points each.
