JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Kebrina Lucas scored 25 points, Jazmine Spears added 23 and New Albany beat Lawrence County 71-61 in the Class 4A girls state basketball championship on Friday night.
Spears was named the game's most valuable player, shooting 8 of 13 from the field and grabbing 16 rebounds. Micah Washington added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs shot 23 of 41 (56.1%) from the field and won the rebounding edge 41-20.
New Albany (29-4) won its first state title since 2002 despite a spectacular game from Lawrence County's Tiaria Griffin, who scored 39 points on 15 of 25 shooting. She also grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals.
Lawrence County (26-9) shot 23 of 55 from the field (41.8%).
