JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Many of Jackson's firefighters were recognized for their hard work in a promotional ceremony. It was a standing room only crowd at the Jackson Convention Complex Friday.
Family and friends gathered to watch as 118 firefighters were promoted to the ranks of District Chief, Captain, Lieutenant and Relief Driver Operator.
"It really defines a career path for our firefighters. We have the best fire insurance rating in the state of Mississippi, which means that our citizens pay less in fire insurance then other people who have a higher rate. We're very proud that we have a world class fire department," said City of Jackson spokesperson Chris Mims.
The ceremony marks a milestone for the Jackson Fire Department. The last promotional ceremony for the positions of Captain, Lieutenant and Relief Driver Operator was over six years ago.
