Fossil Road Show held at MS Natural Science of Museum

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Young archeologists learn more about their back yard discoveries Saturday at the Mississippi Natural Science Museum.

The 8th Annual Fossil Road show was held Saturday afternoon at the museum. Hundreds of kids and adults brought in their fossils to be examined by expert geologists.

A panel scientists from Ole Miss, the University of Louisiana Monroe and the Office of Geology identified fossils discovered by more than 50 people. It was also an opportunity for budding adventurers to check out the museum's fossil collection.

"We also had special activities for the kids. We had dinosaur tracing exercises, an exercise where kids use a small simple microscope to look at tiny fossils in road gravel. The same road gravel that we see in roads throughout rural Mississippi," said George Philips of the Museum of Natural Science.

The museum's next major event is the open house and nature fest on April 9th.
