JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Rodney Hood scored 24 points and Devin Cherry added 15 as Meridian beat Vicksburg 62-47 to win the Class 6A boys state basketball championship on Saturday.
Hood, a 6-foot-8 Mississippi State signee, made 7 of 14 shots from the field and 10 of 10 from the free-throw line. Meridian (29-2) never trailed, and the win helped erase some of the sting from last year's title game loss to Starkville.
The Wildcats shot 21 of 41 (51.2%) from the field.
Vicksburg (27-4) was led by Mychal Ammons, a South Alabama signee, who scored 24 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field. Willie Gibbs added 12.
