JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Lt. Governor Phil Bryant and 10 other Mississippians are again challenging the constitutionality of the new federal Healthcare Reform Law.
On Friday, lawyers for Lt. Governor Bryant and the other plaintiffs filed an amended complaint in federal court, giving more specifics on how they would be injured by the new law.
In February, Judge Keith Starrett dismissed the original suit filed last year by the group. He said they had not shown they had the legal standing to challenge it. But, the plaintiff's attorneys say their new suit should pave the way for a ruling on the law's constitutional merits.
"What he wanted specifically, was for us to spell out precisely how each individual petitioner was affected. We've done that now, we look forward to our day in court and we look forward to Judge Starrett ruling on the constitutionality of the healthcare plan," said Attorney Chris McDaniel.
Attorney Chris McDaniel expects a ruling from the judge in the next few months.
