JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Charles Clark, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, died Sunday in Jackson. Judge Clark served on the 5th Circuit for 23 years, 11 years as Chief Judge.
He was the highest ranking judicial official from Mississippi since L.Q.C. Lamar served on the U. S. Supreme Court in 1893.
Clark was a naval veteran of both WWII and Korea.
According to friends and family he will be remembered as a man of wisdom and compassion.
5th Circuit Judge Leslie Southwick says he owes his career to Clark, whom he calls one of the most respected judges to ever serve on that bench.
Funeral service will be at St. James Episcopal Church Thursday at 11am. Visitation will follow the service.
