Tuesday night's severe storms cause flooding, accidents

Posted: Updated:

CENTRAL MS (WLBT) - Severe storms swept through most of the Magnolia State throughout Tuesday night.

A tornado watch is in effect for much of the WLBT viewing area for Tuesday night.

Heavy downpours brought flash flooding to many places.

Investigators believe the weather may have been a factor in an accident involving a state trooper.

It happened on Highway 61 South in Warren County in the Vicksburg city limits.

WLBT has learned Master Sergeant John Minor's cruiser hydroplaned into a creek bank landing upside down.

Master Sergeant Minor was responding to an accident on I-20 near the Flowers exit.

Sources said Minor could not exit his vehicle and fired his pistol to attract attention.

Neighbors reported shots fired and Minor was rescued and taken to River Region Medical Center complaining of back pain.
