WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested two people Wednesday night after a 30 minute chase across town.
The men are accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint at an ATM at the BB&T on Oleander Drive. A witness called 911 to notify authorities of the event. The victim also spoke to dispatch officers but could not provide a description of the men.
"I have no idea what they looked like," the victim said. "I had a gun in my face."
According to the investigation report, the men stole cash, a cell phone, and left the area in the victim's Hyundai Tiburon.
Officers began chasing the men around 10:45 p.m. The pair crashed the stolen Tiburon in Brunswick County, jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods.
"This is a classic example of why you would want to pursue a vehicle," said Leland Police Chief Tim Jayne. "You have a felony dangerous to life, you have someone who's armed, already robbed a lady at the ATM. We don't know exactly what this person might be capable of."
Authorities continued to follow them, and with the help of the Sable helicopter, Leland Police, and Brunswick Sheriff's Office, quickly found and arrested Anthony Damaud Anderson, 18, and Zeer Nifis Cannady, 17.
Anderson is being held in the New Hanover County detention facility in lieu of a $50,000 on the following charges:
Robbery with a dangerous weapon
Speeding to elude arrest
No operator's license
Cannady is also being held at the detention center under a $100,000 secured bond for the following charges:
