Man shot in road rage incident

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson police have arrested one man while another is fighting for his life.  Spokeswoman for JPD said the motive in this shooting appears to be road rage.

Just before 6pm Wednesday, 30-year-old Larry Johnson, Jr. was found lying beside a dumpster at the Arbor Park Apartments at 5551 Shaw Street.

Johnson was shot in the back and side.  He was listed in critical condition at the University Medical Center late Wednesday night.

Officer Colendula Green said 28-year-old Willie Benard was arrested while trying to flee the scene. He was caught at Highway 80 and Shaw Road.

Benard is charged with aggravated assault. Officer Green said one man was coming out of the complex as the other was going in.

They got into an argument before getting out of their vehicles and Benard opened fire.
