JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - President Barack Obama called for a comprehensive review of all nuclear plants in the United States Thursday.  The President's remarks come one week after a powerful earthquake and tsunami caused wide spread devastation to Japan. The President was asking the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to examine the 104 U.S.- nuclear reactors to ensure they can withstand earthquakes and other disasters.

Entergy Nuclear is the second largest nuclear operator in the United States.  The company's Grand Gulf Plant in Port Gibson is Mississippi's only nuclear reactor.

"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has a resident at each nuclear site in the United States 365 days a year, 24/7.  So that oversight, that modification, that risk analysis is really an ongoing issue," said Mike Boling with Entergy Nuclear.

Boling also said in order to maintain a license through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission each nuclear plant needs to demonstrate its safe guards against natural and man made disasters.
