Jackson City Councilmen may have to move out of city hall

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Unless a state law is changed, Jackson council members could be booted out of city hall. Council members were outraged and the mayor caught off guard by a legal memo warning of the problem.

This morning council members and the mayor unanimously vote to requests lawmakers to amend current law. Unless this is done, council members might have to move out and set up an office in their district.

Jackson's population has decreased over the years. State code says council members can have city hall offices only in cities with more than 190-thousand people. Jackson's population dropped to 173-thousand in the 2010 Census.
