RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson police officer is in trouble with the law himself.

James Keeler has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Agency, accused of "doctor shopping."

Assistant Special Agent Joel Reece in Jackson says Keeler went to multiple local doctors, posing as a patient. Keeler is accused of racking up an alarming quantity of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs.

He's being held in the Rankin County jail on $40,000 bond.

Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green confirmed that Keeler had been arrested and that as of Friday, he was no long employed by JPD. She continued that his alleged involvement in the crime and subsequent arrest should not be an indictment on the entire Jackson Police Department.

Special Agent Reece says "doctor shopping" is the DEA's most rapidly rising problem nationwide. He says a special tactical diversion squad has been assembled locally to combat the problem.
