Former JPD officer got drugs from 'Sonny' Montgomery VA Medical Center and other hospitals

JACKSON, MS (AP)- A Jackson Police oOficer has been arrested by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

James Keeler was arrested Thursday on doctor shopping charges.

Doctor shopping is when a person poses as a patient and goes to multiple doctors to obtain large quantities of drugs.

Special agent in charge John McDermott said drugs were obtained from the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, the Veterans Affairs Medical cenCer in bBloxi, and other hospitals and pharmacies in the area.

Keeler was being held in the Rankin County Detention center on $40,000 bond.

JPD spokeswoman Colendula Green confirmed Keeler's arrest and said he is no long employed by the police department as of Friday.
