VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - I-20 Mississippi River bridge at Vicksburg has reopened, after being closed more than two hours to remove a barge lodged against it.
The removal was not successful, so crews will resume work sometime Friday morning. The bridge will most likely close again while the work is going on.
Eight barges broke loose around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, and one of them struck the bridge. The bridge and the older span next to it that carries railroad traffic were shut down for several hours Wednesday.
One of the barges drifted and remains lodged against one of the pillars supporting the bridge.
