Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg will remain open today

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The United States Coast Guard will "NOT" shut down the Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg today. This decision comes as they try to come up with another plan to remove a barge stuck against the bridge.

They tried in vain to move the barge Thursday, But three tow boats could not get the partially sunken barge to budge.

MDOT shut down the bridge as the coast guard attempted their operation, halting traffic on Interstate 20 for a couple of hours. That was plenty of time for traffic to stack up for an estimated 10 miles.

The barge is nearly submerged After colliding against one of the bridge supports Wednesday. It is restricting traffic on the water.
