New Naval ship 'Arlington' christened in Pascagoula

Posted: Updated:

A new Navy ship named in honor of the 184 people killed on 9/11 when an American Airlines jet hit the Pentagon has been christened.

"Bless the ship and all that sail within her. I christen thee Arlington," said Joyce Rumsfeld, the wife of Former Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld. She smashed a ceremonial bottle of champagne across the bow of the "USS Arlington" Saturday.

It is the Navy's newest amphibious transport dock ship that was built in Pascagoula.

The ship's name "Arlington" is titled after the city of Arlington, Virginia where the Pentagon is located.

The boat's home will be in Norfolk, Virginia.
