JPS teacher dies after collapsing in classroom

A Jackson Public School teacher has died after collapsing in a classroom. 

Karen Manning worked at Bates Elementary School.  She was in the middle of a math lesson Wednesday afternoon when she collapsed in front of her 4th grade students. 

The students rushed next door to get help.  Manning was taken to CMMC where she later died. 

She had worked as a teacher with JPS schools for 24 years and was named one of several Metro Jackson Teachers of the Year for 2006. She was 54 years old.
