Prices will soon be falling in the City of Lights.
Hundreds were present Monday morning as city leaders announced Walmart was building a new Supercenter in Canton.
The business will be located on the west side of Interstate 55, just south of the Canton exit.
The store plans to provide 250-350 jobs at the new location, which will be about 50,000 square feet smaller than their Madison store.
Canton city leaders are hoping Walmart's presence will encourage more stores to open in the area.
"When you look at the record a lot of our constituents have been going to Madison, going to Ridgeland, going into Jackson," Mayor Dr. William Truly said. "They don't have to do that now, they can spend their money right here in Canton. Cantonians are going to get tremendous benefit from sales taxes."
Walmart will make an announcement in the coming weeks on where people can apply for jobs.
There will also be opportunities for companies to aid in the construction of the new store.
They hope to have it built by mid to late 2012.
