JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police arrested two men accused of trying to sell stolen drain covers Tuesday.

JPD Officer Colendula Green said the thieves took seven inlet drain covers, with the City of Jackson stamped on them, to The Can Man on Valley Street.

An off duty officer was nearby and questioned the men who fled.

They were later caught on Prentiss Street.

The steel cast iron steel covers are valued at $500.00 each.

Eighteen year old Alvin Brown Jr. and 20-year-old Jonathan Mallard, both of Jackson, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.

They told investigators that they found the items in an abandoned yard in the Queens neighborhood.
