Gov. Barbour responds to blog post controversy

Posted: Updated:

The state's House Speaker is directing questions to Governor Barbour over a political blog's report Wednesday night.

The post on Cotton Mouth Blog quoted the Lt. Governor as telling GOP state senators, the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit would "take care of Republicans in the redistricting lawsuit" because Governor Haley Barbour handled her nomination to the court when he worked in the Reagan White House.

Speaker Billy McCoy sent a letter to the governor asking if this was indeed the case.

The governor responded to McCoy in a letter Wednesday that said in part:

"When I received your letter regarding the blog posting you saw, I was flabbergasted. I did not manage Judge Jones' confirmation process or any other judicial confirmation process during my time in the White House...

Frankly, I'm surprised some blogger would impugn the integrity of our federal courts and a senior judge based on zero facts. But then again, I don't accept at face value everything I read in a blog."

Legislative redistricting has been stalled for weeks at the State Capitol as House and Senate lawmakers face off over plans.
