An early morning accident involving an 18-wheeler on I-55 North in Madison County caused a traffic nightmare for commuters.
The two lanes of traffic on 55-North were back up near mile marker 122, just North of Canton while crews changed the tires of the semi-truck. Police say around 4:30 this morning the driver of the truck veered off of the road and into a grassy ditch. The only way to move the truck was to change the flat tires on the side of the road.
The Emergency Management Director for Madison County, Butch Hammock says, "The reason for the back up is we had to get the records on the interstate, to get the truck out of the ditch up from out of the woods and onto the interstate to get it loaded on the record."
Crews also had to clean up gallons of fuel which leaked from the truck into a nearby body of water. No one was injured in this wreck.
