SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

State crime lab officials were set to process a vehicle found submerged in a Simpson County pond.

Investigators hoped it will provide further evidence in a murder investigation.

Jermie Pittman of Magee had been missing 3 days when his SUV was pulled from this pond off New Hope Road and Highway 49 in Simpson County Saturday.

The property owner had noticed tire tracks leading into the water and called 911.

The 31 year old's body was found inside the SUV.

"The only wounds that were visible that we could see, he had several gunshot wounds," Simpson County Sheriff Lt. William Buckley said.

According to Sheriff Kenneth Lewis, Pittman was recently charged with felony marijuana possession and set to plead guilty Friday.

"He was known to sell drugs, he has been arrested on drug charges," Lt. Buckley said.  "He was set up to have a court date Friday."

The last conversation Pittman had was on the phone with his cousin and feared someone was after him.

"I'm not going to lie.  He had plenty of enemies, plenty of them," Pittman's mother Theresa Payne said.  "Someone had been following him all the way from Magee."

Simpson County investigators said they have 3 suspects and feel certain an arrest is near which may help to bring closure to his grieving family.

"They didn't have to take my child's life.  They could have beat him up and let him come home or whatever, but they didn't have to do him like this," Payne said.  "But the person who done it, I don't know who it is, but they need to pay."
