Couple faces drug charges, brought child to suspected drug deal

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Hinds County couple that brought their child to a suspected drug deal Tuesday is facing serious charges.

Narcotics officers with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department arrested Bernard Mack, 44, and Tracy Hurst, 35, in front of this home on McDowell Road around 1:15 Tuesday afternoon.

The deputies received information the two were bringing crack cocaine to the home, and intercepted the shipment.

The couple's 3-year-old was in the back seat of the car when they were handcuffed.

The deputies say Mack tried to swallow some of the crack before they arrested him.

"What's shocking is there was a 3 year old child in the vehicle at the time they were dealing the drugs," said Lt. Jeff Scott of the Hinds Co. Sheriff's Dept. "It's not a large amount of drugs it speaks to the imagination that you would have your child with you when you're doing something like this."

Mack and Hurst are charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

The child was turned over to a relative at the scene.

The drugs had a street value of $100.
