Fire rips through northwest Jackson warehouse

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Firefighters were busy at the scene of a vacant warehouse fire Wednesday afternoon.

Thick white smoke could be seen rising above the small metal building located on Pattan Drive off Boling Street.

Jackson Fire Department officials said the 911 call came in around 4:40 p.m.  as a warehouse fire.

At one point a part of the structure collapsed.

A for sale sign was posted outside the building which previously housed the Benny Bass Cabinet Company.

Investigators are not certain what was stored inside the building.

No one was injured, and officials said none of the nearby homes were threatened.

"When units arrived on scene it was 80% involved. It was an all metal building so the best thing to do is go on and protect the exposure and then be able to expedite the situation," said J.F.D. Division Chief R.D. Simpson.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the blaze in the vacant structure.
