CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The severe weather that ripped through the Magnolia state Friday left destruction to homes and business in its wake.

A state of emergency was declared after Friday's powerful line of spring storms spawned tornadoes across Mississippi. Governor Haley Barbour toured the devastation Saturday left in the state's hardest hit area of Clinton.

"With the MEMA folks, who have been working on this, we're gonna have the federal authorities in here first thing Monday to ask for a certification at my request for federal disaster assistance so that we can get people help,"  Governor Barbour said.
