HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

FEMA representatives are surveying tornado damage in Hinds county today. It will be several days before they could announce Jackson and Clinton can qualify for financial assistance.

The surveyors are looking at how many non or under insured homeowners have damage, and need assistance from Washington.

The Mississippi State Board of Contractors is warning residents to be vigilant in hiring reputable companies to handle repairs.

Charles Sharman, a Branch Director with the Board says, "If they ask for money up front that should be a red flag. You should always ask to see their license and examples of their work."

Board officials say its also a good idea to make sure the company has a working local number to reach them at. The Board has a list of contractors licensed with the state on their website.
