"Just pride. I'm proud of my son for what he did. For his beliefs. it's just overwhelming."
We were told by Chaplain Duprey at the funeral that the Marines are improving and they are going to make it. Do you envision ever meeting them someday?
'I would love to. I would love to meet them. See what they would have to say. Hear the stories. I never thought I would be a Gold Star Mom. I was never anticipating this happening. I'm proud for my son for what he did. I was behind him 100% because he died doing what he loved to do. And that song by Tim McGraw played at the funeral, "If you're reading this, I'm already gone." he actually wrote me a letter and it said, "Mom, I hope you never have to read this."
"The community here, the businesses here that have donated food and support and prayers from everybody. It has been overpowering. I want to thank all the schools and churches that have sent letters from people I don't even know. There was one little girl who held up a sign on the roadway to the cemetery and it said, "I love you, Jason Rogers. I'll see you in Heaven" and that impacted everyone who was there."
"I just got off the phone with a Gunny Sergeant right before this interview. He told me he never felt that kind of patriotism and love. He just could not explain the feeling they felt. They've never seen that in any part of the country. In fact, they want to move here. Move to Mississippi and be a part of this."
