MSU player suspended 1 game

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State outfielder Brent Brownlee has been suspended for the game against Mississippi Tuesday night in Pearl after making an obscene gesture to fans at Arkansas on Sunday.

Bulldogs coach John Cohen announced the 1-game punishment on Monday. Cohen says the incident was caught on television.

Cohen says Brownlee was responding to hecklers.

Cohen says the junior will remain in Starkville on Tuesday when Mississippi State plays Ole Miss at 6:35 p.m. in the Governor's Cup and will be allowed to return to action Friday when South Carolina pays a visit.

Brownlee holds a .267 batting average. He suffered a stress fracture in his foot during the Vanderbilt series on March 20 and returned to the lineup at Arkansas.
