A Mississippi College student who was murdered last week was remembered on the campus Tuesday night in Clinton. A group of students joined family and friends of 38 year old Shamese Church for a memorial service.
Church was a social work student at MC. Police say her 20 year old son, Mark Lewis shot his mother Friday morning at their home on Shannon Dale Drive in Jackson. Classmates joined professors to share memories, and Church's hopes for getting her degree.
"Its been hard, not only for the classmates but for our faculty and staff in our department as well. Shamese was a great person, she was around the office a lot, very well respected and looked upon greatly among her peers," said Dr. Brian Anderson.
It was an emotional night for Church's family as students released balloons in her memory. Church was also Secretary of The Association of Student Social Workers.
Her son has been charged with murder.
