Sound Off: WLBT Weather

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

This past week deadly tornados swept across the country.

A state of emergency was declared for fourteen Mississippi counties by Governor Barbour.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities or life threatening injuries in the WLBT viewing area.

The National Weather Service, weather radios and all the TV stations do a great job of warning people in the path of the storms.

Technology has enabled us to better identify and track severe weather. WLBT is blessed to have meteorologists who are trained and committed to protect our viewers.

I have lived in Mississippi most of my life. Most people are like me and have never seen a tornado in person, only pictures on TV. That can lull you into a false sense of security.

Friday's tornados came too close for comfort to my Clinton home and reminded me once again why we need to take tornado warnings very seriously.
